1.0 General List information
1.1 What's the purpose of this list?
This list is for the discussion of all things pertaining to soccer in North America. Discussion can range from the National Teams, MLS, World Cup, USISL, amateur, youth, CONCACAF, Gold Cup, US Open Cup, college, coaching and on and on. 1.5 Is there a list archive?
Yes. Go to: <http://nas.americakicks.com/archive/maillist.html>
2.0 List content and inside jokes.
2.1 What are the list rules?
Soccer. The list pretty much polices itself. Things to refrain from are personal attacks, racism, language and generally a bad attitude. No spam email will be tolerated. Some soccer related business information is okay, such as tournaments, but remember that it must be kept to the barest minimum.
Here are some suggestions in no particular order:
o Think before you post.
o Please follow the generally accepted netiquette guidelines; such as quoting
only pertinent information when replying, profanity and if the posting should be
sent to a smaller set of individuals instead of the whole list.
o Think before you post.
o If you really have to send a *flame*, compose it and wait 24 hours. Usually in
that time a person can think of a nicer way to get their point across.
o Think before you post.
o Personal attacks shouldn't be. If you have a beef with someone take it to
direct email.
o Know when to send private email rather than replies to the list.
o Think before you speak. Act like adults, not children
o No pissing contests will be tolerated.
o Use OT "Off Topic" when necessary in the subject field
o Keep "politics" OFF! NAS PLEASE
o No Attachments to the list
o Please watch sending duplicate posts to the list before sending your email
o Please read the list before replying to avoid duplicated topics, or news items
o Breaking the NAS rules will result in private warnings from one of the moderators
o Excessive breaking of rules can result in being banned temporarily or permanently
Other things to keep in mind:
Please do not post in html to the list. This is very easy to setup in
your email program under preferences.
If you have a long URL to post, add << and >> around the URL. This helps
many mail programs to open the web page correctly just by clicking on it.
Do not use or turn off "out of office" replies in your email program. If
you are going on vacation or will be away from some time please
temporarily unsub from the list. But please come back now, yah hear!
NAS (North American Soccer): Can include posts about soccer in the US,
Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico, etc. Although 90-95% of list content
is based on US Soccer.
Use OT for "Off Topic" in your subject field if your post does not deal
with Soccer in North America. OT posts are more than welcome. But as a
courtesy to other list members who do not care to read OT messages this
will be helpful for them in deleting unwanted messages.
Trouble makers will NOT be tolerated on NAS in any way. If you need to
be smart ass, flamer, or troll go elsewhere. This rule is enforced with
full list moderation.
Please use common courtesy when posting. Use the same judgment as if you
were speaking to someone face to face. Use of rude comments, racial
slurs, club hatred, excessive vociferous language or gutter talk will
not be tolerated.
NAS, can be a high volume mailing list at peak times (US qualification,
Work Cup, etc.) and is normally a medium volume list. If you feel
overwhelmed by the volume of emails change your subscription to the the
NAS Digest. This does however make it harder to stay on top of current
issues and respond to threads in a timely manner, but may fit your
life-style better. All list changes can be made from your email program
or NAS webpage. Please see: http://nas.americakicks.com/
If you have any troubles please email a list moderator or the List
administrator. admin@americakicks.com
If you have any technical questions about the list, or need to report
problems or downtime, email one of the moderators or the list
administrator. admin@americakicks.com
Use your delete key. If you have no interest in a subject/thread, simply
use your delete key. Do not use bandwidth to bitch about it.
Please edit your messages. Lines and lines of babble and text are not
helpful in keeping threads going and save on overall message size and
bandwidth. Please edit and delete text that is not being referred to in
your replys. Much appreciated.
Spread the word about NAS. Our community includes presence from all the
major cities in the US (MLS and A-league, WUSA, D3, PDL, etc.) and all
over the world (i.e. Germany, Norway, UK, Holland), press, coaches,
doctors, fans, experts on television/net, youth soccer, MLS, A-League,
USSF, Sams-Army, etc.
ALL off list communication will be kept OFF-LIST. If you have a complaint
with a moderation request, or a NAS administrator you can take it to the NAS
board by emailing this address: NASsuggest@americakicks.com
Any private personal communication between NAS members/non-members will be
kept in private domain or the offenders will be occurred warnings leading to
suspensions.
Suspended NAS members may not post under a new alias.
News links/URL's will be posted to the NAS list if of great importance or
breaking news pertaining to North American and US Soccer or OT or
interesting general soccer stories. All other links will be posted daily at:
http://www.sams-army.com
in list fashion on the front page.
2.2 Do NOT post scores in the subject line; In fact...
If you need to post the score, add an R in the subject line, i.e.;
Subject: [R] I know the score, I know the score!!!
Also, don't give hints in the subject line that tells people who won (Subject: UNC does it again). This is a critical issue on NAS for members who tape games to watch later, be careful to not ruin it for other members.
2.3 Sometimes this is more than a list, it's a community.
The bottom line for all of the preceding questions is that the nas list is a lot of people that enjoy soccer and want to see it thrive in North America like it does in the rest of the world. So, subjects may get off topic. That's okay as long as it's kept to a short time thread. NAS is a community. In fact it's quite a large community. If there's something on the list that you don't like, don't worry, chances are it will go away (-8 The bottom line is that there is quite a lot of traffic on this list. You don't have to read all of it and most list members don't. Liberal use of the delete key is a good thing. And of course if the list gets too painful, you can always subscribe to seeing a daily list of the subjects...
2.4 Okay, I don't get enough from just this list, are there others?
Hmm, you can always have two subscriptions to the list (-8 Basically, the Sam's Army website has information on a lot of soccer mailing lists and websites. If that isn't enough, most search engines will bring up quite a few soccer sites...
