I agree with Kevin on this one. (yeah I know, I pinched myself as well ;-)
)
I think this is a natural progression of the league; where there may be
more, not less flow to and from the league with other leagues.
I think it raises the profile of the league abroad as WELL as "Joe Six
Pack" who now may not be hostile to soccer, but wants to see a high quality
product...not something that is
"poo poo'd" by its own domestic afficianados as well as abroad. He wants to
know
the US, as a nation is doing well and its league is not a joke.

I do understand the concern. Just from what I see, I think that the slope
isn't as slippery as it may appear and that instead it is a reasoned step
to deal with specific needs.
Considering that we still need to expand our national footprint, at the
very least Philadelphia, Seattle and something in the Southeast are
necessary spots to go to. From that angle, we're not big enough. And as
we currently have significant interest in ownership, better to strike the
right deal with the right people in the right places now and then let the
MLS Youth Initiative (among other things) continue to develop the player
pool.
Also bear in mind that MLS has cut back on international spots before and I
would imagine wouldn't be against doing so again if the US player pool is
large enough to maintain the quality of play.

see the league expand at a slower rate than do this.
