I know for college football they call it the
Mississippi State rule because of their damn cowbells. It's a tough
question, because everybody wants to get the crowd fired up, but it will ruin
your night at the game if it's the guy next to you banging the cowbell for two
hours. I have to admit that I wouldn't complain if they could
confiscate those horns that always seem to be at the US-Mexico games. I've
rarely heard anyone complain about a good drummer, though.

[Forgive me, but you've touched on a nerve a bit.]
Considering
how gridiron football has their marching bands and cheerleaders, the hypocracy
here is pathetic. At a pointyball game, you can get as rowdy as you want,
but at a soccer game, nothing more than a golf-clap please. (And the
"please" is just a pleasantry, it isn't really meant. What is meant is
"no, really - do what your effin' told.") As someone who has wanted to go
and support SMU soccer at games, this rule drove me mad.
But these people
have to have their pretty little country club. No wonder MLS has such a
problem with dis-passionate fans in some areas of most stadiums. Last time
I checked, this was professional sports (MLS, I mean), not the
opera.
