I'm inclined to agree somewhat.  Another thing I've noted about the Northwest 
in general, though, is that people here on the whole I think would rather go 
out and play or do something rather than sit and watch other people do it.

I believe both Portland and Seattle are kind of crappy sports towns. They
are happy to jump on the bandwagon when a local team is doing well. They
will also show up for a really big event (or an event perceived as a really
big event). However, minor league team support is fair at best and when the
Blazers or the Seahawks suck attendance drops off in a hurry. That doesn't
mean that soccer wouldn't succeed here. A soccer-specific stadium (which
neither place has) along with reasonable ticket prices would probably allow
an MLS team to do ok.
