 - if someone wants to be an owner, they have to be ready to really do all
the things it takes to be an owner. Granted, in 2007 it will be easier
than it was in 2001 (labor peace - not something to be underestimated,
proof that SSSs can work, now revenue-based television deals, the whole
SUM process, as mentioned above diversified ownership, stabilized
expansion as I think it is safe to say that both Chivas and RSL have done
better than Miami was doing).

been working really hard to find a SSS spot and an owner, and may be
moved if it doesn't work out. New York? Red Bull just put $100 mil into
them and a SSS is apparently still on the way.

Having been on the fringes of minor sports,IMHO many OWNERS do not have
the CA$H to be owners. Being a person worth $10 MILLION may mean you have
1 or 2 Million cash with a steady income. When starting a say "roller
hockey" team the "new owner" expects that he will make MONEY after all the
OWNERS of MLBaseball, NBA, NHL & NFL make big bucks. After he loses, 2
million it is no longer a hobby and he is cash poor. :(

The Stadium issue is really easy.
As a fan, I buy my ticket, pay for parking, buy a drink or three, buy
some food, buy a cap and a program and leave $100 lighter in the wallet.
The OWNER / Team got my ticket money and whatever licensing fee the program
and cap sellers paid the Team. Plus the TEAM pays for some of the workers
and RENT $$$ and has nothing but receipts to show for it at the end of the
year.
With the Stadium, the Team gets the Parking, concessions of all kinds -
food, caps, drinks, programs. They do pay salaries to the sellers and they
pay a Mortgage but they end up with a lot more $$$. Also they can rent out
the stadium to other people and do the "We do the consessions, parking
routine" making $$ off the other poor non-stadium owners.
One way a loss and the other a possible and usually eventually a money
maker.
