I wrote a couple of weeks ago that if they got 40K I would be surprised.

Well, if I could I would eat that post.

And NO, I am sure there is no other city in the US that would sellout that fast for a game featuring a well known foreign team and a MLS squad. On the other hand DC United is the gold standard when it comes to professional soccer in the US so that might have helped some. Will Barcelona and the MetroStars(I know its Red Bulls but...) get 66K for their game this weekend?

I think this game could have sold out in any number of cities. I think de has a point--Beckham, et al are a great draw. He's basically a rock star, isn't he, whether deserved or not? Perhaps not some of the MLS cities because of a level of saturation, but I think most of the big cities in the US would have done just fine. I AM kidding when I say that this should in any way qualify us for a team. The only thing that will do that at this point is a very rich owner, a new stadium, and an aggressive campaign to make it happen. I don't see any of those things happening in Seattle's current sports climate. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mariners are the next team to leave this town. I give 'em 5 years, right after the sale of the team by Nintendo. I DO get it vis-a-vis MLS soccer... but that won't stop my ranting! ; )
