Can I hold you to that?!? Over half of the tix were sold in just a few hours yesterday. That's 35,000+ and counting... They don't expect to sell out, but do think that 50,000 to 55,000 is the likely final tally. Btw..... I wasn't watching close enough... was that Everton vs. Columbus match in Columbus? If so, what a very weak excuse for fan support. This is an EPL team for cryin' out loud.

Sounders hosting? As in playing RM? Mwaaaa Haaaa Haaaaa!! Sorry, a little moment of insanity. The Sounders have struggled most of this year (they lost a ton of players last year), although they seem to be rebounding and coming together nicely. Still, it wouldn't even be a game and people do, ultimately, want to be entertained.

I'll say this about the Sounders and Schmetzer. Year after year, they operate on one of the most marginal budgets in their league, yet manage to find a way to the top of the table (probably not this year, but don't count 'em out). Someone in the MLS should give serious consideration to this guy. He's been absurdly successful at taking marginal talent and forming them into a very solid team. Even more so, the players literally bleed Schmetzer--he's the kind of guy who just inspires you to give 110%. D

Is there a reason why the Seattle Sounders weren't asked to play host for this game?

I know they are so called division 2, and may not be as good as DC United, but it strikes me that it would have been a good idea for them to host instead of United. On the other hand, maybe MLS is a co-promoter because they originally wanted to try and play it in the DC area.

In any case, I would be shocked, SHOCKED...if more than 40,000 tickets were sold of a RMA v DCU in two weeks. If that many or more were sold, MLS needs to put Seattle in the league next year.

Well, there's some historical precedent..... the Man U/Celtic game here
sold out in 4 hours! Seattle has a huge "event" market. Not just the
idle rich (the # of millionaires in this area is staggering) but youth
and adult recreational soccer participation like nowhere in the
country. They'll fill the seats. I'd love to say, "gee, I told you so",
but you guys already know that this area, with a viable owner (or an
owner who would accept the business model, Mr. Paul Allen), would be
one of the hottest MLS markets in the States. Fact is, this game is a
bad argument for that because, again, this is more an event than an
actual reflection of the sport. Still, the MLS would do well to find a
way to get a team into this city. Portland, too. D---
