They are advertising Beckham as playing. I thought he was out for at
least 3-4 months after his injury at the WC? I guess I wasn't paying
attention... was the injury less serious than originally thought?
The Sounders organization deserves great credit for bringing this game
together. Apparently it was no easy feat. I've always said that I'd do
anything to support soccer locally, especially as it relates to
bringing an MLS team here and make no mistake... this is ALL about
impressing the MLS and potential local owners (Sounders owner has been
very upfront about that). I guess I'm a liar, because I've got to say,
the price for this game is insane. You simply cannot get a decent seat
for less than $125. Yes, there are SOME $75 seats that would be okay
(up high, near the top of the penalty area). I'm just stunned. There
isn't a performer in the world who charges that much. Not even Cirque
in Vegas charges those prices (okay, they charge exactly that!). I live
for music, but I wouldn't pay that for a one-time only, back from the
dead, two-hour performance from the Beatles. This game will sell out.
It will sell out in less than 5 hours (the Man U/Celtic match sold out
in 4).
In the article (Seattle Times, if you want to take a look) there is
mention of a Real Salt Lake connection.... It made me wonder if Seattle
is trying to gain some leverage with that organization should a
decision be made to move them at some point in the future due to
stadium issues...... While one can only hope, I honestly would rather
get a new franchise than build our future on the backs of someone
else's broken dreams. I'll be crossing my fingers on that one; the MLS
doesn't need to be moving teams around, they need to be adding new
ones. Besides, plop a team in Seattle and Portland and you've got a
nice little NW rivalry brewing between those three teams. That kind of
stuff is always good for the league, just ask the Celtics/Knicks/76ers.
