Players aren't with their national team coach enough. This will happen more with club teams (like Yallop has done) who's coaches are able to pick out raw talent and mold them into a legit starter and an eventual national team player. Yallop did this with Ching, De Rosario, and Mullan to an extent. Cannon and Barrett have been on the cusp of being in the player pool so you can say he helped refine them too (though I think Brian Quinn, who also had an eye for talent, was responsible for drafting them). As for Yallop being US National Team caliber, I just don't see him in the same boat as Klinsmann. This sounds weird, but I trust Yallop more with a club side and I trust Klinsmann more with a national side. Why? I trust Yallop more than Klinsmann in running a club side because Yallop has proven that he can identify and nurture talent, whereas Klinsmann has not (at least not in any public way with a club team). But I would say that I trust Klinsmann more with a national side than Yallop because of the track record of each. No, I don't want to get into the "Klinsmann Debate" again, I've talked that one to death. But, a national gig doesn't require the same development of talent, so that does not work against Klinsmann; and if I think of Yallop being put in Klinsmann's position as coach of Germany, would he have had the same success? I don't see it, though Klinsmann probably wouldn't see any more success at Canada than Yallop did. In order for the US to be a success in the LONG run, we do need someone at a lower level who can develop talent and improve things on a system wide level. In the short run, we need someone who can re-ignite the team concept (something I think Klinsmann AND Yallop are capable of) and we need someone to solve Donovan as a head case (something that Yallop too had trouble with in San Jose). With Claudio gone and aparently no one of Donovan's equal or better, the Donovan situation needs urgently to be fixed or we'll likely continue to take steps backwards, regardless of who is coach.
