International friendly set for Aug. 9th at Qwest Field
Washington, D.C. (July 24, 2006) - D.C. United announced today it will play an international friendly against legendary Spanish club Real Madrid on Wednesday, August 9th at Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington. Kick off is slated for 8:00 p.m. local time (11:00 p.m. ET).
“D.C. United is thrilled to be playing one of the top teams in the world,” said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. “We look forward to the challenge of competing against Real Madrid and to a great evening of soccer.”
Tickets to the match will go on sale to the public on Wednesday, July 26th at 10:00 AM. In addition to the most recognized athlete in the world, David Beckham, the Real Madrid roster includes superstars Ronaldo, Emerson, Roberto Carlos, Robinho and Cicinho from the Brazilian National Team, Raúl, captain of the Spanish National Team, and recently signed Italian mega-star, Italian captain and 2006 World Cup Champion member, Fabio Cannavaro.
Real Madrid have been European Champions <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Champions_League> a record nine times and have also won a record 29 Spanish First Division (La Liga <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Liga>) titles. United has been impressive in international friendlies and holds a 15-5-3 all-time record in such games.
