Did Yallop do something with Canada's soccer program during the last WC
qualifiying that I missed? I don't think they got to the final 6 of the
group did they?

I'd put Yallop and Klinsmann on about the same level. They would both be
risky but potentially rewarding choices.

Yallop's experience with Canada shouldn't be discounted too much. The
Canadian setup is extremely difficult to have success with. They don't have
a decent league, their best players are overseas and not all of their
players have been willing to make the trip for matches. I view his
experience as a positive in the sense that he got international experience
under difficult circumstances. He also has club coaching experience.

On the other hand, Klinsmann's Germany experience should be kept in
perspective too. He deserves credit for what Germany achieved, but their
situation is miles away from ours. It is not as if we have a stable full of
young brilliance that just needs to find the right mentality. For success we
need to develop unrefined talent, something Klinsmann didn't need to do with
Germany.

Klinsmann's primary asset is that he is showing signs that he might just
become one of the great brains in soccer. Of course it is too early to tell,
but what is clear is that he is gathering knowledge from unusual places (the
US for example) and combining that with tried and true old-school methods.
What's more, I can guarantee that he wouldn't have played one striker
against Ghana.
