I was watching one of those high school games this weekend of Fox Sports
West on DirecTV. I think there were three played on Saturday in the
rain.

At first when I saw the field, I wondered where because there have been
so many games like this played at Anahiem Stadium(or whatever its called
now) and there was a huge white rectangle with something painted on it
at mid field and in the end zone three drawings of something that said
CIF 79. It was shortly there after that I saw a signboard that said
Home Depot Center.

I think given the limited number of soccer games to be played a year
and the size of SSS, having big high school games in those places is
always going to happen.

I am a member of the Poplar Point advisory committee, which is a
committee that has been put together in the part of the city I live to
guide what should happen with the Poplar Point land transfer the federal
government has transfered to the DC government. Its where DC United
wants to build their new stadium. In part of their stated plans, United
has told people that they intend to have at least 200 events a year,
many of them concerts at this new place. I for one don't believe it will
be nearly that many events, but think they are using it as an excuse to
justify wanting to build it there.

With all the talk of present and soon to arrive SSS, how can I not?
Even before dropping my Season Ticket last year out of respect for my
digestive tract and the effect that SSS {Steve Samson Soccer} was having
on it, I thought the term "Soccer Specific Stadium" was, at best a dream
or, at worst, a cruel hoax. Here I was making my way to the "US Mecca of
Soccer", the "Taj Mahal" to every home game to watch soccer played on a
pitch that often looked more like a pasture than a soccer pitch - & this
from "Day One". Galaxy & HDC management always was quick with reasons
but slow to fix. In Carson "SSS" might better mean " Sandwich Soccer in
Soon" or "Soccer Sometimes Stadium". Rather than any degree of soccer
specifcity, the beautiful game is sandwiched in with X Games, High
School Marching Band Competitions, Graduation Ceremonies, Rugby, no idea
how many concerts, High School Football Games [3 / day over the past 2
weekends], and other events that don't hit my radar screen.
