Is a joke. It is akin to the Fifa "World Rankings".
Want to see how silly it is- if Zidane not winning it last year was enough;
here is a head to head comparison of the top two candidates......
it is really no contest at all....

World Player Of The Year Stats

Henry 47 games 39 goals 11 assists

Ronaldinho 38 games 15 goals 7 assists

Trophies won for Ronaldinho: 0

The Brazilian master is certainly a brilliant player, but based on actual results on the pitch did he deserve this for this "past year?" If one wants to make the case he is on line to get this award for 2005; I am onboard as he is having a massive start to the season THIS SEASON- but for this past year
there was only one real candidate and
it is there for all to see. It is robbery, pure and simple.
It cannot be said this was based on "international" play as Ronaldinho did not even play in Copa America. No, the fact is that no player playing in the premiership has ever
won this award and there is a bias for Spain and Italian sides. Ronaldinho is the "fashionable" pick of the moment.

If you think this is juts a biased rant; forget it. I have had fans from
opposing clubs all over the world state that Henry should have won and the ones that did not stated they did not like the premiership....
and that about sums it up, I think. The vote was not given for Henry because he played in England.
