This is a hugely important point (reserve squads).
That alone will do wonders for American players. Most
of the "lost" Americans will go to the USL Second
Division (I'm glad they went to that, much as I
respected the history and name of the "A-League").
And those "lost" players will probably get better
salaries as they are the middle-level players.

Please don't underestimate the importance of the
reserve teams to the development of the average soccer
player. It is a great chance to find players who
slipped through the ODP cracks. Will it generate Fast
Eddies? Probably not. We probably won't see the next
Landon Donovan or DMB out of a reserve squad.

But it could find and develop that next tier of player
a lot faster than the USL or college.

Most importantly, the kind of depth that the league
will need to be more than a marginally sized league
will come from this reserve side. This alone will
probably ensure that the league has enough talent to
expand as needed for years to come (unless they expand
faster than an average of one a year - or two every
other year).
