One of the articles out just recently had said since the inception of the league, the bottom half of the players in the league is much better than in 96, but the overall quality of the league has not improved in the past 4 years or so.  I tend to agree, the 'nobodies' are better than they were even 4 years ago, but we need to get some more exciting players.  We have too many boring teams in the league.  The addage that only 50% of the games may be good is still true.

With Chiva's in the league we now have that 'evil empire' everyone was asking if United was.  Everyone loves or hates them it seems.  I don't see it bring MLS to it's deathknell.  I see it actually strengthening, but we'll see.  New England could always use a few more visitors to it's matches, am I wrong???  So when CHiva's comes, i'm sure that will bolster attendance, I could be wrong, but we'll see.

So in regards to International spots.  We lost 12 senior international slots now, since there are now 4 instead of 3.  But we gained 2 sides, true, one wants only those of a certain extent, but now we have another avenue for hispanic oriented players in the states.  Think about it, if you have no one to identify with, is it not hard to enjoy something, or take something away?  Now Latino's kids have a team they can support, not saying they will, but they might.  At least they will see that there is a place for latino's to play professionally.  With the supposed edition of Club America, there will be 2 sides.

Change is hard, sometimes you need to make it.  Sometimes you neeed to gamble.  MLS' boring offseason won't be this year.  Think about how much we talk about it normally.  This offseason Chiva's could piss us all of the entire time and get us ready to kick their bums.

By increasing the number of foreign allocations, both senior internationals and youth internationals, it takes away roster spots for American players.  The rule was fine the way it was.

By the way, I do pay a great deal of attention to other leagues around the world.  Other leagues around have allocation limits as well and it hurts the national team programs when they have too many foreign born players in the league. Some leagues have no allocation limits i.e. Belgium and Holland.  And it is hurting the national teams.  In the 70's and 80's Holland was one of the worlds best teams and now they can't even qualify for the World Cup.

Any way the MLS can't afford to bring any world class talent so most  of the time they bring in class "B" talent or over the hill internationals that don't even make an impression in the league. (there have been exceptions like Valderama and Etcheverry and Nowak)

Did you read the article?

"The transaction increases Chivas USA’s number of Youth
International slots from five to six, thus allowing up
to ten non-U.S. resident players (six Youth and four
Senior Internationals) to form part of Head Coach
Thomas Rongen’s roster for the 2005 season."

Ten foreign roster spots per team is going to help the US players? Don't think so.

How many foreign allocations are allowed in the MLS 3 or 4 right? So that is all the non americans they can have on this team. The rest should be American born.
