Several conditions need to be met for Reyna to be on
the roster.  He could make the selection just for
experience and leadership but ...

At the risk of being labelled a heretic let me say one
word:  Donovan.

If Landon steps up his play and shoulders the
responsiblity of being team captain, playmaker, and
the channel through which the offense should go most
of the time then Claudio won't be more than a sub in
2006.  And there are other playmakers now which, while
not as gifted maybe as Landon or Claudio, are younger,
faster, quicker thinking, quicker reacting, and on a
given day can be as good as Claudio.  

I attribute this directly to the existence of MLS, the
A-League, and the supporting structures below that
that feed more and more talented players up the
layers.  I couldn't necessarily name one at the moment
but among the ranks of professional players elligible
for the US roster I cannot imagine that there are not
players capable of competing with Claudio for a spot
on the 06 roster at this point.  As with McBride, I
like Claudio but he's on the bubble for me and has to
earn the spot.  He clearly slows the pace of the game
much of the time and when you contrast that to the
players we have on the field with speed it makes for a
team that is easily stopped by marking out one slow
player.
