What's funny is that the discussions on being
better/worse than the A League and/or playing in the
Open Cup in no way bear resemblance to the comments by
the people affiliated with the league. Plus, they run
completely against what MLS needs.

Some fans may feel they need to have standings for
reserves and turn a developmental tool into a pissing
contest with the USL, but the bottom line is they are
likely expanding rosters to give more people game
experience under their watch.

Since the demise of the USL/MLS agreement, loans have
been much more difficult to come by, so the league is
doing their own thing at giving young players time.
The league needs to walk before it runs so they seem
to be smart enough to keep this on a developmental
level and not turn it into a dog and pony show, if
their initial comments are indicative of what
eventually happens.

These teams may play each other, but that doesn't mean
those games will be the be all and end all of the
system.
