It is close enough to walk, and the route takes you through a beautiful, safe part of the city. You can include Michigan Avenue and Grant Park. Grant Park is host to Buckingham Fountain, the largest fountain in the world, with a displacement greater than the fountains at Petrodvorets or Versailles. It also has the world’s largest rose garden, or at least that is claimed by city boosters. Soldier Field is part of the “Museum Campus”, which includes the Field Museum of Natural History, the Adler Planetarium, and the Shedd Aquarium.
Parking at Soldier Field is $15.00. The Waldron Parking Deck to the south of the stadium is the location of the tailgate hosted by the Barnburners.
There are excellent transit connections to the stadium. The best way is to take the Red Line to 12th Street Roosevelt Road and walk from there (15 minutes). There is also a bus that leaves from the front of the station which takes you to the Museum Campus just north of the stadium. The Red Line was
built for the 1893 World’s Fair and was the first urban mass transit line ever.
The Illinois Central, which leaves from Randolph Street Station in the Loop, stops at 18th street (4.30 departure-4.35 arrival, 5.00 departure, 5.05 arrival). This is very close to the stadium but Sunday connections back are infrequent.
You can also take a cab to and from the stadium. To find one after the game, walk through the Museum Campus towards the Roosevelt Road station, and you will start finding them as you reach Michigan Avenue. CTA busses wait in front of the Field Museum, just north of the stadium, after Soldier Field Events. There are a couple of routes, one that takes you to Roosevelt Road station, one that goes to Union Station in the West Loop, and another that goes farther north.
