According to the San Antonio Express-News, the Alamodome did not put down grass for Mexico's home...err..Dominica's "home" WCQ match tonight. How did they allow a World Cup Qualifier to be played on painted concrete (even if the concrete is called "field turf")?
Field Turf gets a back rap. It is an excellent product when the application and installation is done properly. There are several fields that are FIFA approved (I don't know if the Alamodome is one of them) like the new stadium in Seattle.

No, it is no perfect, but it is LEAGUES better than the astroturf of the old days, and also Field Turf as a brand unfortunately gets blocked into other rip-off products that are not as good.

Ask any MLS player what they would rather be playing on at the Meadowlands, the current FieldTurf field that is consistent, flat and playable game in and out, or the old "grass" field that tended to be more like something behind a warehouse in Jersey City?
