MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER MOURNS
DEATH OF BERT WOLSTEIN
NEW YORK (Monday, May 17, 2004) – Major League Soccer Commissioner and Soccer United Marketing CEO Don Garber today issued the following statement regarding the death of Cleveland-based soccer pioneer Bert Wolstein, who passed away earlier today.
“On behalf of Major League Soccer’s players, coaches, administrators and ownership, I would like to offer the sincerest condolences to Iris Wolstein and the entire Wolstein family,” said Garber. “Bert and his wife Iris have been extraordinarily committed to the development of soccer at all levels in northeast Ohio, and his passion for the game, his unflinching dedication to community service and his pursuit of excellence in all his endeavors – both professionally and personally – will never be forgotten.”
Headquartered in New York City, Major League Soccer features many top stars from the United States and around the world and is America’s Division I men’s outdoor professional soccer league. The ten teams that comprise MLS are: the Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Columbus Crew, Dallas Burn, D.C. United, Kansas City Wizards, Los Angeles Galaxy, MetroStars, New England Revolution and the Defending Champion San Jose Earthquakes.
