hmmm...the 'Freddy Factor' has a lot of potential to bring in new fans.
Think back to when you first started watching a sport - for me it always
involved asking questions about what was happening and why it just
happened - soccer was more difficult to grasp because the questions and
answers had to come while the plays were still going on. I have heard lots
of stories of people who learned about and fell in love with soccer after a
World Cup year - they were drawn to the hype and the event, but fell in love
with the game while they were there.

The 'Freddy Factor' is an event that lasts as long as the hype does.

Fire defender Jim Curtin said of the Burn.
"Actually, it was embarrassing. It was our home opener and they played like
they were the home team."

If people are only interested in the league because of
Freddy, don't you think they'll walk away if he's not
dominating the games? If their attention span is so
short and their interest in soccer so minute, they'll
find a reason to leave when they are immediately
satisfied.

For a change, MLS is putting the game first and
marketing second. Yet people complain.
