What's the problem Bill? You'd rather watch CL than 2002 Poker Tour, or the
1999 Westminster Dog Show (I thought the Bassett got jobbed that year...) ?

;-)

Subject: [nas] ESPN programming/CL?

This is a letter a friend of mine sent to ESPN after
hearing the near constant reference to the showing of
CL matches everywhere.... except the USA during the
Chelski-Stuttgart match yesterday. If someone knows an
answer besides the typical "it doesn't get the ratings
numbers" please let me know. Otherwise why not send a
note to ESPN similar to the one below to the following
address (unless someone's got a better one):

askespntv@espn.twdc.com

ESPN

I watch the UEFA champions league match each week.
There are always a lot of other matches and programs
mentioned that I would like to see.
Unfortunately, the rest of the soccer matches and
programs are available to everyone in the world,
except the USA. What does it take to get them? One
match per week out of all the matches that are
available is
wearing very thin. If you show them to everyone else
in the world, why not show them to the USA? I do not
understand why a network based in the USA, won't show
programs to the USA.

ESPN has exclusive rights to air many matches. ESPN
airs those matches in all but it's own country. If
ESPN is so concerned that not enough people in the USA
will watch them, then let someone else air them in the

USA. I am retired from the U. S. Navy, I traveled a
lot. I was a soccer player in school and have always
been a fan of the worlds game.
The only network that I have found that really airs
much soccer is Fox Sports World. They provide several
matches from several different leagues each week.
Their viewer ship seems to be pretty good. Why can't
ESPN air more than one match per week? It is not fair
to show
the rest of the world quality programming and leave us out.
