I >guess we are about to find out :-). Bruce isn't picking his World Cup roster, he is picking players for a friendly. One of Bruce's strengths is that he thinks long term. He doesn't pick only the best talent at this moment; rather, he builds a roster with a specific agenda. One of his agendas with this particular roster is to get some new players into the pool. This is especially important for positions where you don't have a lot of depth. By position I don't just mean "forward", but rather players with certain characteristics when they play in a certain place on the field. Having 3 or 4 different types of forwards available give you a lot of flexibility. Most national teams pick their best players and then try to come up with a system that allows these players to win. For important matches, Bruce picks the players who he feels will give his team the best chance of winning that particular match or tournament. To do this well, you need a large and versatile pool, and that is exactly what Bruce is creating. April, are you out there? As for subs playing on national teams, almost every mid-level national team in Europe has at least one or two club subs who start for their national team. This is especially true for Ireland, Scottland and Wales, whose rosters usually have Premiership players who haven't quite broken through for their clubs yet.
