MetroStars forced to wait for Pole vault By Michael Lewis Daily News - Sept. 9, 2003 In a perfect world, Andrzej Juskowiak's paperwork would have been completed, and he would play in the MetroStars' exhibition match against the Chinese National Team at Giants Stadium tonight. Instead, the MetroStars will have to wait until Thursday night for the veteran Polish forward to fly into Newark from Warsaw to join his new team. Juskowiak, 32, could be suited up for Saturday's crucial home game against the New England Revolution. His work permit from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service was mailed to him yesterday, MetroStars GM Nick Sakiewicz said. Juskowiak should get it today, allowing him to travel on Thursday and train with the MLS club on Friday. Juskowiak was the leading scorer of the 1992 Olympics with silver medalist Poland. He has connected for 136 goals in 379 games with Sporting Lisbon (Portugal), Olympiakos (Greece) and German teams Wolfsburg, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Energie Cottbus. Slowed by injuries, Juskowiak has scored only eight goals the past two seasons. The MetroStars got him as a discovery player from San Jose for a third-round pick in the 2005 draft. Honored: Clint Mathis, whose two goals in the 2-1 victory at the Kansas City Wizards were his first league scores since July 2, was named MLS player of the week. -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Email service worth paying for.
