At least, if he isn't finishing, I expect him to do more than stand around waiting for someone to pass him the damn ball.  He's been a late game replacement, when we usually had the lead and he's got to play some defense and pressure the opponents defense.

I'd love to see a buy-line too, since I really question the inclusion of Beasley, Kljesten, Pearce and Casey given their current performances.  Granted he did put Kljesten and Pearce on the fringe, but I'd rather see Rogers and Holden in there based on their recent performances. Chad is probably a better alternative than Pearce.  What happened to Simek that he fell out of the picture?  In watching the 2007 Gold Cup replays, he looked pretty good back then.  And don't we have better and younger options at left than Beasley? Convey has been injured, but now that he is healthy, shouldn't he get another look?  Is Eddie Lewis too old for 2010?

You raise an interesting point, although I wonder whether Kenny Cooper or Freddy Adu might illustrate it better. Personally, at the start of the year, I was expecting Cooper to grab our big forward job, and at the start of Gold Cup, I was expecting big things from Adu. Instead, they've both fallen back (although Jozy and Davies have progressed very well).

As for Ching and Casey, they were both starting World Cup qualifiers back in 2004, and even though Ching has done markedly better, they've both had their ups and downs. I don't expect Casey to drop out of the picture now, but after 0 goals in 14 caps (8 starts), he needs to get into the box and finish.

I did think it odd the article didn't have a by-line.

But I will say that when making these prognostications, one error fans make over and over regarding what the admin people will do is that they tend to over-rate the chances of guys who haven't gotten as much national team experience over the guys who have.  I remember a fair few folks, for instance, figuring Conor Casey would go ahead of Brian Ching in the pecking order. .  until we saw Casey play a few times and make us appreciate what Ching brought in the absence.
