Worst part was that when van Damme was questioned about it, he called Onyewu a liar and furthermore claimed Gooch made remarks about his ethnicity, which if Gooch is in the right here is the kind of thing that takes it beyond the field.  Also, his club refused to file a complaint (maybe they figured, "why go to bat for a guy that's about to leave?")  I could see how Gooch would want this on the record for the world to see.  I don't think he believes he'll get anywhere with it, it's just important to formally register the protest.

I agree with pb and PaulN. The racism in Europe towards blacks is unbelievable at times. to have another player say the same thing against an other player DURING a game is reprehensible. I suspect Onyewu thought long and hard before he filed the suit
