"I am changing my name to Chrysler" -- old Tom Paxton song that fits AIG's current problem.  You might enjoy that!

I've worked in the insurance game for 39 years and AIG always stood for Ain't That Grand"  Doesn't surprise me that they went down as they always were more of a financial company than insurance.  (Even though they were the worlds largest insurance company).

I read somewhere that this will not affect anything for ManU.  If anything, they can sell the shirt rights again for more money.  Which means all the ManU fans will have to buy new shirts with the new company logo on the front to stay in fashion.  More money for the "Old Firm".

Don't worry, all the money that the government is putting into AIG will be picked up by an insurance policy surcharge that will be added to your policy.  That's how the government handled the 9/11 problems for all the workers compensation and general liability claims that arose out of that.  Whether you know it or not, you'll be paying that debt off with your premiums for the next 20 years.

You can pay for AIG with your tax dollars or your premium dollars, but you and I will be the ones to pay.  What else is new.

Gilette stadium wasn’t going to be Gilette. It was only after the disgraceful fall of the original naming rights buyer (can’t recall name right now) that Gilette bought out that contract – though I’m really not sure how that all worked out. Maybe Evan or another Revs fan has some insight?

AIG has been rated poorly in the insurance industry for quite some time. The news of this fall did not surprise me. What irks me is that our tax dollars are being used for corporate welfare.

The myth that is being perpetuated by the media is that a lot of consumers would be affected with not being covered by insurance, etc etc. But the portfolio’s would be the first to be auctioned off so some other company would buy out all the loans, contracts, insurance policies.

Back to soccer, the on paper assets will probably affect the buying power of stars and trade negotiations down the pike.

Not really. AIG is not only the jersey sponsor for ManU, but ManU owners, the Glazers, have a considerable fortune allied to AIG with their purchase of ManU a few years ago. Essentially, AIG is a co-owner of ManU. So their fall could effect ManU.

What would have happened if the US did not come to AIG's rescue yesterday?

Liverpool fans would be cheering

probably about the same that happened with Newcastle when their sponsor ran into trouble earlier this year
