This has been discussed pretty frequently on the blogs.  He has 
apparently been approached quite recently by USSF, but he has told 
everyone involved that he would like to delay his decision as long as 
possible.  AFAIK, he's actually eligible to to play for three countries, 
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, and the U.S.
