Perhaps it's because of the lines the we more easily can perceive how far
away the strike is in relation to goal?

that make for some of the greatest goals in MLS?  I doubt it would stand 
up with any kind of real analysis, but it seems that great goals, 
especially long-distance scorchers like Davie Arnaud's this afternoon,
seem to be over-represented on fields marred by NFL gridlines.  Totally 
spoils the highlight reel...
