Think photoshop. There is software available to those who process  
video that provides a wide array of filters and corrections. Many of  
these are as easy to apply as auto-contrast is in photoshop (click of  
a button). Once the action is captured, it's easy to apply any or all  
of these processes on the fly. It makes no sense to apply these  
filters to the live capture, as lighting conditions change depending  
on where the camera is and what it's looking at, so what may work say  
for the midfield sideline would be a terrible application for the  
center of the field. Much easier to correct the problem on playback.
