I have a question for any of the TV guys that knows.  I watched the
game today on the ESPN2 replay, because we lost power last night
thanks to Hanna. I know the lighting at the stadium wasn't optimal,
but I wonder why the replay shots seemed much lighter and easier to
see than the main camera shots?

The cameraman can adjust the "iris" on the camera allowing in more light and making the shot appear to have more light than there actually is at the time. When viewing a replay they can make additional adjustments in the studio to fool viewers and clean up the recording a bit.
