The real problem is the start and end of the season and the playoffs. Right now MLS starts on March 29. March 15 or March 22 would be doable in virtually every MLS city. The ones with the most problems would be (in this order): Toronto, Chicago, Columbus, New England. Virtually every other "northernish" MLS city (even Denver, Salt Lake, NY, Philly) has tolerable average mean temperatures in March (to see them in nice graphic format, just go to MSN Weather where they have the montly averages). For TFC, Fire, Crew, and Revs, they play the first 2 or 3 on the road and the problem is solved on the front end. Right now the MLS Cup is on November 23, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Why not push it back a week or two, with the MLS cup either the last Sunday in November or the first in December. The mean average temperatures in all of the above cities are actually warmer in November than in March. If we must have the playoffs, do it like the NFL, once game at the home of the highest seeded team and elminate the two legs for the first round. Add up all of the above, and there are now five extra weeks during the season that could easily accomodate the five FIFA windows that we would have to clear between March and November. It's not rocket science people, it's just that MLS is clueless on this issue.
