Bringing 'A' game to town
The United Soccer League gives Syracuse an expansion franchise for next
season.

"Syracuse will compete in the USL's A-League. The USL's Northeast
Division includes Rochester, Toronto, Montreal and Pittsburgh."

"David Askinas, the USL's chief operating officer, said Friday that he
had received a signed franchise agreement between the league and the
Syracuse Pro Sports Group, a collection of local business leaders who
had petitioned the USL for an expansion team."

"We are proceeding with Syracuse in our scheduling for the 2003 season,"
Askinas said. "Everybody thinks (the Syracuse franchise) is going to be
a shining star and a credit to the league."
