Re: [nas] Hong $
Title: Re: [nas] Hong $
A friend in the Korean press mentioned Hong wants to play 2-3 years in the US and also mentioned that Hong will not be the last MLS Korean signing.

Here's an estimate on the higher end of what one might call reasonable.
Say Hong hits 60% of his incentives and stays two seasons (it's
unrealistic to believe MLS would pay that kind of transfer fee without a
multi-year deal). That would be right at about $800k per. Now, any
player who could his 60% of those incentives must be worth at least
$60k, even if his name was John Smith. So subtract that out, and you
have $740k. Divide that by $30 a ticket and by 15 home games, and you
have about 1,650 tix per game.
That's if:
a) he's not one of the better defenders in the league (which would make
him worth more than $60k)
b) he doesn't stay longer than the two years
and c) he still hits 60% of the incentives both years (which would mean
the incentives were rather poorly designed).
