COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew and U.S. National Team star forward Brian
McBride will be one of four players
inducted into the inaugural United Soccer Leagues (USL) Hall of Fame on
opening day of its Annual Operations Meeting November 7.
Three coaches will join the four players.  Joining McBride on the
player side is Chris Armas of the Chicago Fire, Tony Sanneh who
is currently playing in Germany and Canadian star Charmaine Hooper. The
three coaches to be inducted are Kansas City Wizards head
coach Bob Gansler, Rochester Raging Rhinos head coach Pat Ercoli and former
Richmond Kickers head coach Dennis Viollet.  The seven
individuals honored have won a combined 17 championships between Major
League Soccer, USL and the U.S. Open Cup.
McBride was a member of the Division II A-League's Milwaukee Rampage
in 1994.  He tallied 17 goals and 17 assists for 51 points.
His 51 points in 15 games still ranks 6th all-time on the Rampage scoring
list and his 17 assists still has him tied for 7th all-time for Milwaukee.
"It's nice to be honored by a league that's been a foundation for
players beginning professional soccer," said McBride.  "I enjoyed my
time in Milwaukee and am honored to have been a part of the organization."
The 2002 World Cup star scored the winning goal in U.S. victories
over Portugal and Mexico, helping the U.S. advance to the quarterfinals
before losing to eventual runner-up Germany 1-0.  McBride also helped The
Crew win the 2002 U.S. Open Cup championship and was just
one game away from a spot in MLS Cup.
The Arlington Heights, Ill. native is a seven-time MLS All-Star.  He
was the first player taken in the 1996 Inaugural MLS Draft.  McBride
was a two-time All-American at St. Louis University (1990-93) and was a
Hermann Award Finalist and runner-up for the Missouri Athletic Club
Player of the Year as a senior in 1993.  In a ceremony on November 9 in St.
Louis, McBride will become the first Billikens player to have his
jersey retired from the storied program.
