Re: [nas] OT: SPL news
Thanks Big Dog.
This is quite scary actually.
The future of the SPL looks quite bad - especially with the Cashcow of
Rangers and Celtic heading into the sunset. It's interesting to see that as
modern communications has increased (more viewing of "bigger clubs" on the
TV), that support for local clubs has gone down. What a choice eh - watch
Man U vs Leverkusen on the box, or head down to see Cowdenbeath play Queen
of the South.
Years ago, you'd go down and support the local team - because there was
very little else to watch on the TV or otherwise. Now people get a greater
football fix, seeing bigger stars from a broader geographical reach.
As a Liverpool fan, I hope C & R don't go into the EPL - it would mean too
much competition for Champions League places!!!
With Leeds, Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal, ManU and possibly Spurs
(and possibly one other team) realistically competing for places, including
Celtic and Rangers in the mix would surely mean some of these English clubs
would implode if they could not make it into Europe (and thus get the CL
cash needed to cover their spiraling wage costs)
All the best
Niall
