Re: [nas] important tv changes
This just in on ABC:
While ABC decided against airing Friday's 7:30am ET U.S.-Germany
quarterfinal — which will remain on ESPN as originally planned — "Good
Morning America" plans to carry "extensive reports from the game — many with
shared-screen pictures as it progresses." ABC's Bob Woodruff flew to South
Korea yesterday to report from the game (N.Y. TIMES, 6/19).

I read somewhere that the reason for the uncertainty, as well as the
reason for not showing a match live at 2:30 or 7:30 on a weekend is
because the LOCAL ABC affiliates want to have the tape-delayed
matches be the first time the matches are shown in English.
Like it or not, that's the deal that ESPN had to take to get in on ABC.
The reason for this is they thought they'd get much better ratings for a
match during daylight hours on an over-the-air channel. This, of
course, predated the success of the Nats, which sort of makes the deal
seem foolish. But apparently, the local affiliates are holding ABC/ESPN
to it.
Anybody have anything else on this? Bob? (Oliver, if you are lurking?) >>
