OK, Peter, say you got transferred to the UK, Germany, or perhaps even
Mexico? Say the job was so good that you chose to live there for the
forseable future, perhaps forever?

Exactly when would YOU stop celebrating the 4th of July and start
celebrating Guy Fawkes Day, German Unification Day, or Cinco de
Mayo?

Probably never, but if you had kids there, they would.

The US has assimiliated generations of immigrants for two centuries,
but it's only the successor generations that really assimilate, not the first
ones.

There's no magic switch that you can turn on to make people instantly
switch allegiance from one country to another. It takes time, so have
enough faith in the capacity of this country to do with latino immigrants
what it has done with all of the others.
