[nas] (OT) So Much for the New Ball Increasing Goal Scoring...

After 32 games, we have 81 goals for an average 2.53
goals a game.

Italia '90 had an average of 2.21, USA '94 had 2.71,
France 2.67.

This doesn't bode well if the new ball was introduced
to increase scoring.  I don't see the knockout stages
suddenly becoming more open and attack minded.  I
actually expect teams teams to get more defensive, not
willing to risk anything.

Of course if the linesmen wouldn't be so flag happy
when players are not only even with the last defender,
but sometimes two to three feet ONSIDE, we might have
a lot more goals.  And two perfectly good Italian
goals were brought back for no reason.

I do know one thing...After this WC is over you will
not see this new ball ever again!  :-)
