RE: Re: [nas] USA-Korea -tactics.......
WHY ANDY- we agree again........... the Appocalypse is surely
upon us....
After playing basketball at the college level, I can tell you
basketball IS the same sport, essentially.
Anyone who's ever gone to get a coaching clip board to diagram
plays etc knows- COMPARE A BASKETBALL CLIP BOARD TO SOCCER......
UM.... they are the same.
I believe Dr Naismith picked up a football one day and thought....
hmmm....look at that basket over there......
Same footwork, same 1v1 moves, same type of movements off the ball.

Have you ever watched a futsal match? 5 v 5 on a basketball court... basketball lines are touch lines and basically a 3 point line is used as the penalty area. Goal is about 6 feet high by about 9 feet wide.
The strategy used is also very similar to basketball, stuff like screens, picks, alley-oops, zone defenses vs. man-to-man, are all common. My guess is Brazilians play more futsal, beach soccer (also usually 5 v 5) and "society" football (played on small fields and usually are 5 v5 to 8 v 8 games) than they play full size games. I have Brazilian friends who are fantastic players that are my age (thirtysomething, ahem) who have never played an "official" game with a full field and uniforms, ref, etc. in their lives!
Ronaldo was a futsal player long before he ever set foot on a grass field. I say all of this to say "ditto" to the above post!
