Re: [nas] USA v Korea [R]
The new Point is Mathis WAS before his injury. The big question now is
if and when does he come back to what he was? If he doesn't come back all
the way then he is what he is showing now, a striker. Even at JUST an
International level striker, Clint is worth the money to be on the field
at the highest level. If he comes back ALL the way then, he will be an
International level midfielder.
Arena is talking about fitness because it does not look like Clint has
put the time in the gym, diet and pitch to come back to what is required
to be the OLD "Clint Mathis". Who was the brightest star the US team had
on the offensive end.
Sorry if I was clear. Clint WAS as good as they get. Will Clint pay the
price in Months/Years of Hard Work to be that good again? Time will tell
us but so far it doesn't look like it. I have played or coached several
very talented athletes who were severely injuryed. Some came back while
others never did the grueling, boring hard work necessary to get back to
their former selves. It looks like Arena thinks Clint isn't doing what is
necessary. Luckily for Clint, 85% is still good enough to make a good
living but %100 could be a SuperStar. :(
